Eastern Sierra Nevada Photography Workshop
June 4-9, 2011

Sierra Storm 2, Yosemite National Park, California

The Sierra Nevada Mountains are one of the premier photography destinations in California and the Eastern Sierra are a favorite location for photography workshops.  The peaks that tower two miles about the Owens Valley, the pristine lakes and streams, the ancient bristlecone pines and mysterious tufa of Mono Lake all combine to make a photography workshop an unforgettable experience.  Springtime can be an especially beautiful time in the Sierra as the snow is melting, the normally quite streams become a crescendos of foam and spray and the willows and aspen awaken from their winter sleep.  It's magical.

What to expect

We know the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains and we know how to photograph them.  Our photography workshop will take you to the well known and not so well known locations and get you there in the best light.  You will be challenged to expand your creative and technical skills and receive all the personal attention you want.  Our workshop includes formal classes and informal in-the-field coaching.  And you will have an opportunity to get feedback on your photographs.  The days are long, tiring and extremely rewarding.

Bristlecone Moon, White Mountains, California

Itinerary

Our photography workshop begins Saturday afternoon in Lone Pine, California.  After an orientation we will photograph sunset in the Alabama Hills.  We will spend all day Sunday photographing in the Lone Pine area including a return to the Alabama Hills, Whitney  Portals and others.  Monday we wrap up our stay in Lone Pine with one more sunrise shoot in the area and then relocate to Bishop.

For our first sunset in Bishop we will photograph from the Owens Valley with the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains as the backdrop.  Tuesday sunrise will take us into the mountains where we will photograph North Lake, Lake Sabrina or South Lake as well as some of the many beautiful locations along Bishop Creek.  Tuesday afternoon will take us up into the White Mountains to photograph the ancient bristlecone pines.  This is always a workshop favorite.

On Wednesday morning we will photograph one more sunset in the Bishop area and then move north to Lee Vining.  Along the way we will choose from the following locations to stop for some mid-day photography - Hot Creek, Minaret Summit and the June Lake Loop.  Wednesday ends with sunset photography in Olmsted Point in Yosemite National Park.

For the final morning we will photograph sunrise at the South Tufa at Mono Lake.  Following this we will drive up to historic Bodie where we will wrap up our five day photography workshop.
