The annual Joshua Tree Gathering is an opportunity to
get away for a weekend and enjoy the fascinating beauty
of Joshua Tree National Park here in Southern
California. Besides the Dr Seuss-like Joshua Trees
for which the park is named, the park offers
photographic opportunities that range from endlessly
fascinating rock formations to unparalleled desert
vistas. Besides its natural beauty, the park is richly
flavored with a human history that includes the
Serrano Indians, mining and murder, ranching and
rustling.
Every year like minded photographers of all skill
levels gather in the desert for a weekend of fun,
fellowship and photography. We take advantage of
the beautiful weather spring has to offer to enjoy this
magnificent region. Besides the great photography,
many consider the Saturday night potluck to be one of
the highlights.
Here are the details
- When: March 4-6, 2011
- Where: Cottonwood Campground, Joshua Tree
National Park
- Who: Anyone who loves the desert and
photography. All skill levels are welcome.
- Cost: There is no cost for the Gathering other
than park entrance and camping fees and bringing a
dish to the ever popular Saturday night potluck.
Note: This is not a photography workshop or photo
tour but rather an informal gathering of friends who
share a passion for photography and the desert.
Last year we were treated to the inspiring desert
photography of Paul Martini. I'll be lining up
another guest photographer this year to share their
vision and technique with us.
We're doing things a little differently this year.
I've reserved the group campsite at Cottonwood near the
park's south entrance. The group site is limited
to tent campers. Also, it can only accommodate a
fixed number of people and cars. But Cottonwood
has both group and regular camping. So RV campers
will be able to get a regular campsite. These
campsites are first come first served so you'll need to
arrive early on Friday to ensure you get a site.
Because of these changes you'll need to preregister.
Complete the Registration and Assumption of Risk forms
and fax or email them to me. I'll get back to you
right away and let you know what your camping
arrangements will be - group site or regular site.
The sooner, the better.
