The American Southwest is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.  When traveling there it's not uncommon to hear a vast variety of languages spoken by visitors from all corners of the globe.  This collection will attempt to share with you not only the grand scenes but a more intimate look at the wonders in this wide open country.

The Eastern Sierra

US Highway 395 makes its way up the Owens Valley with the White Mountains to the east and the magnificent escarpment of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the west.  For those that have grown up loving the Sierra this is the kings highway and the names of the towns that dot 395 are music and full of promise – Olancha, Lone Pine, Independence, Big Pine, Bishop, Mammoth Mountain, Lee Vining.  Come take a brief journey with me northward as we explore the beauty of this part of California in the fall of 2006.

California Deserts

California is nearly 1/4 desert.  That's approximately 25 million acres.  Those that pass through quickly during the heat of the day don’t get a chance to see her in her full glory.  But the desert is an astonishing place, one that many people love.  This portfolio currently shows the beauty of two of California’s finest deserts, both preserved as National Parks – Death Valley and Joshua Tree.  Come in and enjoy them with me.

The Green Wilderness

Many parts of our beautiful nation still have lush, unspoiled areas.  Come take a journey with me across half the country, stopping in California, Wyoming and Minnesota.  Enjoy the splendors of the natural areas in these states.  This portfolio currently contains photographs from several national parks – Sequoia, Redwoods and Yellowstone and the Minnesota boundary waters.

Southern California

The Southern California room are pictures from my back yard.  We live in an area of warm, sunny hills and shady, light speckled live oak groves.  The hiking opportunities range from easy five milers to very strenuous twenty mile treks.  The interesting thing about our local mountains are all the surprising places one stumbles across.  I'll be adding to this room as time goes by.  I hope I can give you a view of our mountains that you wouldn't normally find.

Cabo Surf

Cabo San Lucas is at the bottom tip of Baja California.  It is famous for its sport fishing and party atmosphere.  I liked the mornings – early mornings.  Cabo is a great place to shoot sunrise.  Situated at the western edge of the Mountain Time zone I could actually sleep in until 6:00 and still get up in time to get out there while it was still very dark.

I got carried away shooting the surf.  I started out shooting it from the sand and ended up standing in it, letting it wash around my legs as it came crashing in and rushing back out.  The ocean is the Sea of Cortez, a name bestowed on it by Earnest Hemingway and, him being who he was, it stuck.
