With camera bag on my back I locked the car doors and headed down the South Tufa trail to the shore a few hundred yards away. I could see the trail clearly in the pre-dawn light but pulled out my flashlight just in case. A stiff wind was blowing across the lake from a low pressure trough that was passing through. The morning star was high in the brightening sky and ducking behind passing clouds. Arriving at the tufa I wandered among the twisted spires. It felt very much like being in a cathedral. And then, an hour later, the sun made its grand entrance bestowing on us all its heavenly light.
