Tenaya Lake (2010)
Yosemite, California
The most unforgettable image of Tenaya Lake was
made by Ansel Adams – “Tenaya Lake and Mount
Conness.”
So why would I try to reinterpret what the
master had already done so exquisitely?
Well, because Mother Earth constantly
delights and surprises us with ever changing
conditions of weather and light.
And because this was going to be my own
humble interpretation.
I had fully intended to make this a color image.
But as I worked with it the colors not
only didn’t add anything to the message but
actually detracted from it.
So I smiled to myself and made it black
and white – just like the master.
I’m very proud of this photograph because
it reveals yet another mood of this magnificent
lake and mountain.
Look carefully and you’ll see that the
lake is still covered in ice.
