Storm, Tenaya Lake (2010)
Yosemite, California
While we photographed beautiful Tenaya Lake and
Mount Conness the storm clouds boiled and roiled
over our heads.
I was pretty much focused on the mountain
and lake until I looked up and saw the drama
taking place high overhead.
So I rotated the camera to get a vertical
composition and was rewarded with this one.
The Sierra Nevada Mountains are formed from the
most magnificent granite, especially in the
Yosemite area.
After two million years of advancing and
retreating mile-deep glaciers it still stands
strong.
It is this granite that forms the impressive
domes that are so much of the Yosemite landscape
and make this image so captivating. The fact
that the hard rock and feathery clouds are in
harmony makes it all the more fascinating.
