At 14,389 feet about sea level, Mt Williamson is
the 2nd highest peak in California, second only
to Mt Whitney. I've always been attracted
to the majestic north fact of Mt Williamson.
I've searched for a location that sets it off
while still showing the Owens Valley below.
Serendipity often plays a role in finding a
great location and this is definitely one case.
I drove up to Independence the night before and
got in rather late. The next morning I
woke up and it was already light outside.
I grabbed my camera, jumped in the car and raced
up toward the location where I had planned to
shoot from. But it was too late and I wasn't
going to make it. Then I passed this
outcrop of rocks and pulled in. It turned
out to be a fascinating and very fruitful
location. This is just one of many
wonderful possibilities here and I'll return
here again and again to capture its moods.
