The sun is about to peep above the eastern horizon. We linger in the shadows while the peaks above are the first to welcome the warming light, the first to glory in the coming day. They shed the soft mantle of alpenglow and assume their splendid, powerful and rightful place among the towering monarchs of the mighty Eastern Sierra crest. And for a few moments they are displayed in the brilliance of the sun's first light, a light befitting their grandeur.
