At Whitney Portal the paved road ends and the 211 mile John Muir Trail begins.  It's fitting that this spot is marked by Lone Pine Creek as it crashes down a mighty cascade.  The roar of the water can be heard far down the canyon, long before you can see it.

There are may faces to the creek here.  Climb the bank beside the rushing waters and you will find them.  This little piece of the creek caught my attention.  The water swirls in every direction and captures in this small space the chaos and beauty of the entire cascade.
