Thor, the mighty Norse god of
thunder, must have made it to the American
Southwest because it seems he left his hammer
here. That would be the same hammer he
uses to create thunder. This marvelous
hoodoo is one of the most outstanding ones in
Bryce Canyon National Park. And the winter
storm that rolled through during the night gave
it an appropriate backdrop of angry clouds.
So on this cold morning I
hiked down the Sunset Point trail to get a
better angle on Mr. Thor's Hammer. And
what I got was more than just a great
photograph. Not 20 minutes before the
morning sun came out and cast its warm glow,
sleet was falling on us. And if that
wasn't enough, the sleet was punctuated with a
mighty crash of thunder. How perfect.
